๐ถ๏ธ Creating content just for the sake of building a personal brand is a race to the bottom. Hot take? ๐ถ๏ธ
Iโve lost count of how many potential clients have asked in discovery calls:
โHow can I build a great brand for myself?โ
When I ask what theyโve tried, I usually hear:
- โI create content but itโs not getting traction.โ
- โI donโt have time to create content.โ
๐ก But what theyโre really asking is: โHow can I differentiate myself?โ
To differentiate yourself, start by identifying your natural superpowersโyes, you have them. For software engineers, that might look like:
โจ Strong systems intuition
โจ Elegant, maintainable code
โจ Bridging product and engineering
โจ Asking the questions no one else thinks to ask
๐ When your actions align with your strengths, visibility becomes a side effectโnot a performance. Thatโs what a personal brand really is: ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฏ๐๐ถ๐น๐ ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ด๐ต ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆโ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐, ๐ต๐๐๐๐น๐ฒ, ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐น๐ด๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ต๐บ๐.
Itโs unfortunate that content creation has become the default path. Social media rewards visibility, not depth. And when everyoneโs following the same playbook, most content starts to sound the same.
๐ซ The result? Too many smart people churning out forgettable posts just to keep up.
You donโt need to go viral to build a great brand.
You need to be known for doing great workโwork that reflects who you are.
๐จ๏ธ Curious where your natural edge lies or how to communicate your value more strategically? Thatโs exactly what I help engineers uncover. Letโs talk.
